Dear Host Family,
how are you? I am
very glad to write this letter to you.
First, I would like
to thank you for your interest in my application and I would like to tell you
some things about me, my family and my interests.
My name is Magdalena and I was born on the XXXX in Germany. I live
in XXXX which is a little town in the east of Germany with ca. 12000
inhabitants. It is two hours by car from the German capital Berlin away but it
is only one hour away from Dresden, the capital of Saxony.
Here I live in a
house together with my parents XXXX and XXXX and my younger sister XXXX (she
is eleven years old.) My mother is an XXXX. She’s a pretty nice
and friendly person. My father works as an XXXX. He really
likes to talk to and communicate with other people. My parents are busy but
they support me whenever I need help. I have a good relationship to them and
also to my sister. We get along well with each other and have much fun
together. Sometimes there is a little quarrel but I think that’s normal.
There are also two
little rabbits which live with us. They are my sister’s rabbits but I also like
them very much. I would prefer having a dog but unfortunately my dad is
allergic to fur.
My relationship to my
aunts, my uncles, my cousins and my grandparents is awesome. My mother’s
parents are our neighbours so I see them almost every day. On special events
like someone’s birthday, Christmas or Easter the whole family meets together.
That is always very funny! I find it great that my family holds together and I
think that is very important.
Now I want to tell
you more about me and my own person.
My friends would
describe me as an open-minded, funny, responsible and helpful person. I am a
very happy person who loves to laugh. Besides this, I like to help other
people. If somebody needs help, I do my best to help him/her. So since last
year I have been giving extra lessons in English and Maths.
In my free time I do
a lot of sport. I started playing tennis in a club of my hometown about 8 years
ago. In summer I usually take part in league matches at the weekend. Since the 1st
class I have been a member of a swimming club where I am also the coach of a
group of little children. I really like doing this job because the children all
have different characters, so it is never boring.
In the wintertime I
enjoy doing skiing. For eleven years I have been skiing with my family in the
Austrian Alps once a year. I also took part in a ski camp of my school two
years ago. I can honestly say that I really love the mountains.
Besides sport I have
another interest: music. I have been playing the piano for three years. It is
great fun for me and I can calm down and relax while doing it. Since August I
have been doing a mixture of Latin and Standard dancing.
I like horses and
riding very much but sadly I have not got enough time, so I only can ride in
the holidays. So I took part in riding camp some years ago with my friends.
When I have nothing
to do at home I often read books, listen to music, watch series or take
photographs. I often cook or bake and try new recipes.
I really enjoy
meeting my friends. Besides my family, they are the most important people in my
life. I have one best friend who is like a sister to me but I also have many
very good friends. They listen to me and try to help if I have trouble and we
have a lot of fun together. At the weekends we go out, go to the cinema, go for
a walk or cook.
I attend the 9th
grade. My school is called XXXX which has its own
website. If you want, you can have a look at it: XXXX. My school is about
2 miles away, so I go to school by bike or by bus. School starts at 7.55 in the
morning and ends at 3.05 in the afternoon. On Friday it finishes earlier. Every
day the schedule is different. Sometimes it is very hard to have so many
lessons a day. But nevertheless I am a good and ambitious student and my grades
are fine. My favourite subject is English. I like English because the topics
are widely varied and interesting and I just like the language very much
because you can communicate nearly all over the world.
I am a class
representative and I love how school gives me the chance to spend time with my
friends in the breaks and at lunch.
You will probably ask
yourself, why I want to be an exchange student. I think it is a great
opportunity to meet new people, get to know the Canadian culture, improve my English
and gather new experiences. I am so excited about the stay and I hope I will
also be able to show you something about the German way of life. As I love
cooking, I could also cook a German meal for you.
It was always a great
dream of mine to live and go to school in a foreign country and I am really
excited that it will become reality soon. I think Canada is a beautiful country
with its flora and fauna. I am fascinated by the marvellous landscape and the
nice people living there.
Now I hope you have got
a good impression of my life. I would like to wish you a great day and thank
you for taking the time to get to know me and my life a little bit better. I am
looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely
Magdalena
